Alright Celtics fans, it's a rough few weeks of watching our favorite team play but we have finally made it to game day. Today, Friday 12/23 the Celtics (22-10) will tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-16) in which will be there 4th of their 7th home games in a row. With recent performance, this game although it's still early in the season feels like a must win all around.
The first three games versus the Magic (x2) and the Pacers did not go according to the game plan, one (or all) might say. However, the time is now for the Celtics to bounce back and regain their confidence and ability to have fun while engaging in their chosen profession. As Jayson Tatum mentioned after the Pacers loss, "We need to learn how to win again".
While from the outside perspective of Celtics fans, it seems like the entire organization, team chemistry and athletic capabilities have completely crumbled, it's now time to face those demons and prove the world wrong once again. NBA teams go through these types of slumps every year, even the best teams, however the most recent stretch has just felt like there is no hope in sight.
As the Celtics prepare for tonight's showdown at the Garden, here a few things to watch for:
With Marcus Smart now listed as Day-to-Day, will Payton Pritchard get the start again? If he does, I'd like to see more offensive spacing and explosion to open up the floor. He did a great job on defense to start the game, we will need to see that same effort.
Derrick White will need to break out of his own shooting and defensive slump. He always brings the energy but that last few games have only looked like a 60% effort.
Coming off a 41 point performance, Jayson Tatum is going to come out swinging and give his squad a needed mental boost.
I'd like to see Rob Williams get the start tonight as he's looked more than ready to be back in the full limelight.
Jaylen Brown will look to better secure the ball on offensive and prove to the recent haters that he can still defend on the ball.
It's time for the tides to turn for the Celtics, it's time to get back in the win column, it's time to get back to great basketball. Let's go!
